I’m Sarah Pinnix, founder and editor of The High Country Mom Squad. I’m a 34-year-old mother of three, who has lived in the High Country for the past 16 years. I’ve been a K-8 music teacher at Valle Crucis, Mabel, and Cove Creek, and I currently teach private voice and piano lessons. I’ve served in leadership with our local MOPS, and am a member of High Country Mommies.
After blogging at my personal blog, Real Life, for about a year, I began to have a vision for a website/blog providing area families with information, reviews, tips/ tricks, and a whole lot of fun. Basically, a central location for the best the High Country has to offer families. I hope you enjoy The Mom Squad, and feel free to contact me with any questions or suggestions!

Barb Kelley is our Tasty Tuesday Columnist and food expert. Be sure to visit the yummy food blog she publishes with her sister, My Sister’s Kitchen.
“Welcome to My Sister’s Kitchen. My name is Barb Kelley and I’m a High Country mom of four sons ranging from 14 to 20 years old. Sarah invited me to open my kitchen each Tuesday and talk about cooking, recipes, and all things FOOD.
My sister, Laura, and I grew up in a culture where food was the language of love. Now that we each have our own kitchen in our own home (in our own state, I might add), we find we walk the ancient paths of women who nourish those we love. One of the delights of my life is teaching my own children how to create in the kitchen.”

Erin Thompson, 26, is our Children’s Literature Columnist. She is a relatively new transplant to Boone. After graduating from Elon University and spending a few years in Baltimore, she moved back to the area to pursue her Master’s degree in Public Administration. She started working in her family’s bookstore, Black Bear Books, and fell in love with the book industry, especially on a small-town scale. She especially enjoys introducing children and young adults to the books she enjoyed as a kid and is always happy to make a recommendation.
