Freebie Friday: Dinner for Two at the River House Inn
Last week’s Tweetsie Railroad winner is LeAnn! Congratulations!
There is a hidden gem right over in Ashe County that offers everything from elegant lodging, to
gourmet food and wine, to live music and river fishing! I attended a wedding at the River House Inn a few years ago, and while it was absolutely beautiful, I had no idea the the Inn had so much more to offer locals and tourists alike!
From their website:
Much, much more than a Bed and Breakfast, River House is a full-service inn on the North Fork of the New River, near West Jefferson and not far from Boone in the northwest corner of North Carolina.
Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, we are far from the bustle of everyday life.
Escape to a country inn that is really in the country!
There’s a mile of riverfront for strolling, wading, tubing, canoeing and fishing. Brown trout and rainbows abound. Walking trails wind through 170 acres. Our uniquely decorated guestrooms are converted farm buildings and feature king-size beds, private bathrooms, Jacuzzis, art, books and country antiques. Awake each morning to coffee at your door followed by breakfast in the main house. For dinner, our restaurant offers exquisite regional cuisine, an international wine list, and a full-service bar with all ABC permits.
Visit nearby sites such as New River State Park, Grayson Highlands, Mt. Jefferson and Stone Mountain. Drive the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway. Bike the popular Creeper Trail. Ride horseback at Burnt Hill Stables. Play golf at Mountain Aire Golf Course. Shop for antiques, art and pottery.
One of the most popular things to do is absolutely nothing! Relax in a rocking chair on the front porch overlooking the river, visit with other guests, and stroll around the property. River House is ideal for a romantic stay. In fact, you can even get married here!
Come to one of many special culinary evenings. Our Sunday afternoon salons, featured on UNC-TV, showcase a wide variety of musicians and other artists from near and far.
The restaurant at the River House Inn is an exquisite dining room with gourmet, chef creations. It’s perfect for a romantic date or elegant ladies’ night. Every parent needs a night out every now and then, right? The restaurant, with an “a la carte” menu is open Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Reservations are required. The menu is small and it changes daily, at the direction of the amazing chef! The have full ABC permits and serve local, as well as international wines. A dinner here would truly be a treat!
The River House Inn is offering a Mom Squad reader a dinner for two at the restaurant! Talk about a “staycation,” You’ll feel like you’re miles and miles away, even though you’re just down the road.

All the entrees looked delicious, but I think the two I would choose from would be the Spinach Ravioli or the Marinated Lamb Loin! Yum, yum!

Couldn’t choose between the entrees, they all looked good! But I would have to purchase two desserts:
Zinfandel Berries
fresh berries tossed in a red zinfandel and lavender honey reduction, served with basil ice cream
Trio of Sorbets
strawberry red wine, pineapple-star anise, coconut

I love fresh seafood (Charleston girl still in me), so the Yellow fin Tuna sounds great. But the Filet sounds good too and the sides also seem yum! Whatever I chose, I would top it off with the chocolate molten cake. Too bad we did not know about this last week for our anniversary, maybe we will win and get to celebrate again a week later!

I saw a magazine article about River House many years ago (maybe in Southern Living?) and was so excited I kept the article. Then I caught the UNCTV segment and pulled out my old article. Our 25th anniversary was coming up and I hoped to spend a few days “on the river”, but we just couldn’t afford it! I was so disappointed. I know the person that wins this stay will have a wonderful time…a sweet house, gourmet food, music, and that beautiful river are quite a combination. Emma and I share the same tastes…I love anything with spinach, so the spinach ravioli is my menu pick. I could use a medium-rare fillet mignon right now! My husband would choose the lobster.
