March Weekend Events: Spring Fling time 03/26-28

 March is almost over and on into April we go! It’s Spring Fling time with all of the Easter events and enjoying the outdoors. It’s an exciting time of long-awaited sights and smells, and a time of being renewed. There are quite a few events going on this weekend and plenty of opportunities to take in new activities and get active again. So Yeah for sunshine and warmer weather, and please no more cold, snowy, blustery days!!!
 

 

The High Country Comicon is our first activity this Sat., March 27th,  10 am – 4 pm, at the National Guard Armory at 274 Hunting Hills Lane, Boone. The Comicon features Comic Books, Collectible Toys, Non-Sports Cards, Artists, a Magic Tournament and Art Tables for kids. Then we have Blowing Rock’s annual Easter Egg Hunt taking place on Sat., March 27th, in the Memorial Park. 10 am begins the Games with the Hunt  beginning at 11 am. Open to children 12 and younger, the free event includes a special visit from the Easter Bunny. For more information, call 828-295-5222.

 

Another Easter event is Boone’s annual Easter Egg-Stravaganza, this Sat., March 27th, at the Watauga County Library. Festivities will get started at 1 pm with Puppet shows and Arts and Crafts until 2:15 pm, proceeded by the Easter parade taking them to the Jones House Community Center for the Easter egg hunt at 2:30 pm. Children up to age 10 will hunt for candy-filled eggs and “golden eggs,” that can be traded for a prize sponsored by The Downtown Boone Development Association, the Jones House Community Center and the Watauga County Public Library, in conjunction with many local businesses. In case of bad weather, all activities will be at the Watauga County Public Library. Decision on the bad weather plan will be made by 10 am. on the day of event. To help support local businesses and enjoy great creativity and artistry, attend the 1st Boone Handmade Market this Sun., March 28th. Held at Boone’s Turchin Center for the Visual Arts, this event is put on by The Arts Management Organization (AMO), an active ASU club,  and sponsored by the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts. For some educational fun, head on out to Turtle Island’s Open House at the Appalachian Heritage Farm and Environmental Retreat Center on Sun., March 28th, from 10 am – 4 pm, rain or shine.
