in the mood for love?

hearts-largeIt’s Valentine’s Day weekend, and that means it’s time to find fun ways to show your love to your family!  There are several special ways to celebrate in the High Country this Valentine’s Day!

Kidspace (next to Coyote Kitchen), in Boone, is having a Valentine’s Day party for kids ages 8 to 12 on Saturday, February 14th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm.  Admission is $5.00 per person, and kids under 2 are free.  Call 828-719-9000 for more info.

Mountain Music Jamboree, in Glendale Springs, is hosting a Valentine’s Day Dance (and coincidentally, also my daughter’s 7th birthday party!) on the evening of Valentine’s Day – What a great way to keep the romance in your marriage and involve the whole family!  Let your kids see that you can still cut loose and have a great time dancing, in a family environment!  Adults are $8 and children 12 and under are free!  Cut a rug to the bluegrass band Blue Country’s tunes… It will be a blast!  more info and directions -www.MountainMusicJamboree.com

Chick-fil-A has a romantic Valentine’s dinner in store for you – go enjoy your favorite chicken dinner, complete with candles, tablecloths, and romantic decor!

Need a special surprise that will please the whole family?  Try Stick Boy’s Valentine’s Bread, featuring a heart shaped loaf of Chocolate Cherry Sourdough interwined with their White Chocolate Baguette, it guarantees a smile on every face in the house!  Stick Boy is also offering truffles, heart shaped sugar cookies, and chocolate-covered strawberries, along with my favorite – Red Velvet Cake!!!  Check out these and other treats at www.StickBoyBread.com!

My favorite tradition for Valentine’s Day is making homemade Valentines for the kids’ school friends.  Ever since they started school, my girls have hand-made a Valentine for each child in their classes.  It is a lot of work on their part, but I think it is rewarding to put forth an effort to show that they care!  And we have a blast every year picking out stickers and coming up with new designs…. the most special part for me is seeing their individual personalities come out in their cards.  My oldest is sure to make the very same card for each child, paying close attention to fairness and detail, while my youngest tends to tailor each card to the friend for whom it is intended (and to her creative whim at that very moment!) – it’s fun to see what the creations say about your child.  They are all so special in such different ways.

Any fun Valentine’s traditions in your family?  Share them!

Happy Valentine’s Day!
