Where the Wild Things Are, 10 AM, at Horn in the West. This show is based on the award winning children’s book.

AUG 1
Moses H Cone Manor on the Blue Ridge Parkway: Family Day Butterfly Nature Walk, 10 AM. Meet a ranger on the front porch, and hike 2 miles up Flat Top Mountain. This is a 1.5 hour walk, so bring water and wear hiking shoes. This event would probably be appropriate for older kids.

Price Park Amphitheater: Lost Proofing, 8 PM. Join a ranger for a 40 minute program to learn strategies for getting back home.

The Ashe County Arts Council will host a hammer dulcimer concert Friday evening. Ken Kolodner will be performing at the Ashe Arts Center at 7:30. Kolodner will be joined by Ashe County musician Michael Bell and Boone’s Ruth Smith for a few selections.

The 2008 High Country Farm Tour will be on Saturday, August 2 and Sunday, August 3, from 1 to 5pm each day. Buttons will be sold in advance for $20 and for $25 on tour days. Single-farm visits are $10 per car, per farm. Participants should wear comfortable shoes and bring coolers in case they want to purchase produce, eggs, cheese, meat and other items. The tour is held rain or shine. Buttons for the farm tour can be purchased at the following locations: Watuaga & Ashe farmers markets, Footsloggers, Mast store- Boone, Original Mast Store-Boone, BareEssentials, Earthfare, and Spin A Yarn, Weave a Web in Jefferson.
