Becoming a Certified, In-Home Child Care Provider: Is it for You?
During this tough economic time, many are looking for ways to earn extra money. As a Stay-at-Home Mom, sometimes paying for childcare and earning income working outside the home end up in a zero sum total!
I recently spoke with Lee Marshall from the Children’s Council about the process of becoming certified, and she said
many moms are intimidated by the process, and that the Children’s Council will help you through it. Also, if you need any information or childcare referrals, the Children’s Council is the way to get reliable information on accredited programs!
Here is some information from Lee at the Children’s Council:
Did you know that if you care for more than 2 children who aren’t related to you for more than four hours a day, you MUST be licensed by the state? Now that sounds intimidating, but it’s really not. The Children’s Council has staff that can help you through this process. We can come out and visit your home and give you suggestions on what is needed to get a license to care for children in your home. Once a licensed is obtained you can care for five children birth to 5 years old and three school age children. You can run this business in your home while caring for your own child and earn a steady income.
Some parents looking for child care these days are finding themselves on a long waiting list for care. By becoming a licensed child care provider you could also be helping other families in need of child care.
This is a very rewarding child care profession. It is not just “babysitting”. It is not easy work. What other job can you spend time bonding with your own child, while giving them stimulating peer interactions in the comfort of your own home?
If you are interested in getting a packet of information mailed to you or you would like to talk to someone about this process, call Lee Marshall at the Children’s Council at 828-262-5424, ext 206 or email her at lee@thechildrenscouncil.org
